Explain how the rise in use of fossil fuels and changes in agriculture has influenced global temperatures.

A rise in the use of fossil fuels contributes to increases in global temperatures as they trap more of the sun's radiation in the energy in the Earth's atmosphere. The burning of fossil fuels releases carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Fossil fuels account for over 50% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Similarly, recent changes in agriculture has led to increases in global temperatures from the production of fertilisers and pesticides, aswell as the transportation of food. This, coupled with the recent trend of deforestation to make space for farmland leads to increases in carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. This subsequently leads to rises in temperatures as more of the sun's heat energy remains trapped in the Earth's atmosphere.
