There is no set format that Oxbridge expects you to use for your personal statement. In fact, there is no one right way to construct a personal statement. Oxbridge, perhaps more so than other universities, is concerned with your individuality as a candidate so trying to adhere to any predetermined idea of what your personal statement should be may actually end up being detrimental to the success of your application! Instead, try to reflect your uniqueness through your statement. That said, in my experience, there are some general things you can do to make your statement particularly appealing to Oxbridge admissions staff. First, of utmost importance is to express your complete passion for the subject you wish to study. These are universities principally concerned with a love of learning and your statement needs to manifest that. Second, whilst friends focused on applying to other universities may wish to dedicate a large section of their statements to their extracurriculars (and these are no doubt worthy activities), your statement should be primarily focused on your academic interests and only a small section should be dedicated to extracurriculars where they pertain to them. Finally, it is important to find demonstrable ways of expressing your knowledge of your subject. One really good way of doing this is by including two or three texts or documentaries in your subject area and explaining why they are of interest to you.
