What is the difference between meiosis and mitosis

Mitosis is the asexual reproduction/division of cells in a single organism which is used all over the organism. The result of mitosis is genetically identical cells and this is used for growth and repair. A lot of cells are produced in a short amount of time.In Meiosis cells will split and divide/reproduce twice and be genetically different. This is due to a second splitting phase meaning cells created through meiosis will only have 23 chromosomes instead of the 46 in mitosis. These cells will be called gametes and will fuse with the opposite gamete during fertilisation.
