Solve 5x - 2 > 3x + 11

Collect x terms together by moving them over the greater than sign to have 5x - 2 - 3x > 11 (moving terms is the same as with an equals sign, if it is positive on one side it will be negative on the other). Simplify the x terms to get 2x - 2 > 11 and then collect the numerical terms, 2x > 11 +2. Simplify the numerical terms to get the answer 2x > 13 and then solve (by dividing both sides by the x coefficient, which in this case is 2) to get x > 6.5 (13/2).
