What is the difference between qualitative and quantitative data?

Data in general is the pieces of information a researcher gathers when performing a study or investigating a problem. Quantitative data can be expressed in numbers and can be calculated. An example of quantitative data could be the height of a participant in cm. On the contrary, qualitative data cannot be calculated and is usually observed. An example of qualitative data is the eye color.
