How should I go about planning my essays during the exam?

Depending on the amount of time that you have to write your essay, I would recommend spending anywhere between 5 and 10 minutes on planning. It may seem like a substantial amount, but I assure you that a plan will provide a clear understanding about what you are going to write and will ensure that your essay is focused from start to finish. To start, you should highlight or take note of the key words in the question so that you know what your focus should be. From there, consider any aspects of the text you have studied that relate to the character or theme in question and why they are relevant. These aspects could include quotes, symbols or techniques that the author uses at different points in the text. Then, assemble these ideas into three main points. Use these main points to help you write your introduction which will provide a brief overview of them, and your conclusion which will offer your final judgment about them.
