Anna and James share out £40 in the ratio 5:3 in that order. How much do they each get?

1st Find the total number of parts they will be splitting the £50 into. If Anna is getting 5 parts and James is getting 3 how many parts in total? 5 + 3 = 8 2nd Work out how much each part is worth. To do this we divide £40 by 8 = £5 So each part is worth £5 3rd Work out how much Anna and James get each. Anna gets 5 parts, each part is worth £5 so 5 x £5 = £25 James gets 3 parts so 3 x £5 = £15 Check you are correct - Anna and James' parts should add up to £40
