Explain whether the boiling point of 1-bromopentane will be higher, lower or the same as that of 2-bromo-2-methylbutane. (3)

1-bromopentane has a higher boiling point than 2-bromo-2-methylbutane Both isomers have vanderwaahls forces and dipole dipole forces 1-bromopentane is a primary isomer whereas 2-bromo-2-methylbutane is a tertiary isomer meaning there is less surface area in contact between molecules hence lower intermolecular forces
