How do you use the passive voice in German?

The passive is used to put an emphasis on the object of a sentence rather than on its subject. It is used with the verb "werden" along with the verb's past participle. For example "Ich schreibe einen Brief" becomes "ein Brief wird geschrieben". The passive can be used in the present, past and futur tenses like any other voice.
