Explain the international crisis sparked by the attacks on September 11 2001.

The September 11 attacks were globally seen as an act of war. President Bush declared a "War on Terror" shortly after the attacks. The Muslim world, along with the rest of the international community, denounced the terrorists as well. One month after the attacks, the United States, along with the United Kingdom and several members of NATO, invaded Afghanistan in Operation "Enduring Freedom".
