How much of the source and my own knowledge should I use in my answer?

The amount of information will depend on how many marks the question is worth. For example, a 4 marker will need more information form the source as this sort of question is testing your quick observation and interpretation skills. On the other hand, when it comes to a longer 16 marker, you will need more of your own knowledge. This is because, when it comes to a longer answer, you are being tested on how you can use the information in the source as a catalyst for using your own knowledge. Therefore in this way, the source information is there for you to use as a springboard towards adding in your own knowledge to answer the question.
