Discuss the political effects of automation

First give time to question the question. Look for key words that you can break down; in this example automation is a very broad concept and could use defining, and 'political' effects begs the question of social and economics effects. Don't be afraid to manipulate the question to bring in material you are comfortable with - but make sure it still answers the question. Here you could talk about how the political effects depend on the political response, and bring in ideas like a Universal Basic Income to deal with the unemployment. It is important to be honest with yourself - these TSA questions are likely on topics that you have not explicitly studied before, and are examining your ability to adapt and use information in manners you had not previously thought about.

Upon considering these factors it is crucial to form a line of argument that you are capable of arguing, and state this in your introduction. After breaking down the question and clarifying definitions, you could end your introduction for instance by writing, 'Ultimately the political effects of automation are intimately tied to the political response. With increased productivity a successful implementation of Universal Basic Income could increase entrepreneurship and generate economic growth. A failure to respond however would likely result in high levels of unemployment, political disenfranchisement and an increasing polarisation of politics. Ending the introduction in this way gives you scope to then write in more detail a section about Universal Basic Income, and a further section about the risks of political disenfranchisement before finishing with a conclusion. What is important here is not the details but the thought process and technique - as it is very likely you will have to include your own material upon seeing the question.
