Gavin, Harry and Isabel each earn the same salary. Gavin saves 28% of his salary. Harry spends 3/4 of his salary and saves the rest. The amount Isabel saves:The amount she spends=3:7. Who saves the most?

To work out who saved the most we will need to compare the amounts they all saved which we can do easily when they're all in the same form. the easiest one to convert to is percentages because all the values will be out of the same thing (100). Harry spends 3/4 of his money so that means he saves 1/4. 1/4 of 100 is the same as 100/4 which is 25 so he saves 25%. Gavin saved 28% which is already a percentage. To convert the ration into a percentage you add up both sides to see how many parts there are in total. Then to work out the proportion saved you divide the number of parts saved by the total number of parts. 3+7=10 so there are 10 parts in total. Isabel saved 3 so the proportion saved is 3/10 or 0.3. 0.3*100 is 30 so Isabel saves 30% meaning she saved the most because 30 is greater than both 25 and 28.
