Describe the Working Memory Model (A01)

The working memory model is made up of 3 components, which includes: central executive, phonological loop and visuo-spatial sketchpad. The central executive has the supervisory role and is modality free (so it can process information from any sense). Furthermore, it has a limited capacity, so incoming information is usually passed down to the slave systems for further processing. The phonological loop consists of 2 parts, the primary acoustic store (PAS) - inner ear and the articulatory process (AP) - inner voice. The PAS stores acoustically coded information for 1 to 2 seconds. The AP deals with speech production and acts as a verbal rehearsal loop during preparation for speaking. The last part of the Working Memory Model is the VisuoSpatial Sketchpad (VSSP). This processes visual and spatial information..It is also divided into 2 parts, which are visual cache (passively stores visual information) and Inner scribe (processes spatial and movement information). The VSSP has a limited capacity of 3 to 4 items.
