How do I show links between theory and context?

It is really important to demonstrate that you not only know the theory behind the Sociological argument, but that you can also link it to a current context! For example, if I was studying the Education in Society topic and wanted to make a link between Marxist theory of the Education system and how it is demonstrated in contect, I would firstly explain the Marxist theory of Education. The Marxist theory of Education views Education as a means to indoctrinate young people and promote the ideology of the ruling class. The education system, therefore 'funnels' young people into the 'right' job for their class. An example of this in context would be how Oxford University continues to accept a substantial number of students from the private sector, even after considering the 'A' level results. Connor and Dewson (2001) state that only one in five higher education students came from a working class background, which demonstrates what we discussed earlier in regards to the education system benefiting the elite in society.
The key thing to remember when linking theory and context is that the context simply provides a real life example for the theory! If you think about it as a cupcake, the theory provides the cake-base to the answer, whilst the context provides the icing on the cake and will earn you those extra marks!
