Can you explain the three different types of long term memory.

The long term memory can be separated into episodic, semantic and procedural memory. Each of these different types of memory has unique characteristics. The episodic memory is related to personal experiences or episodes e.g a family holiday.
The semantic memory is related to shared knowledge or facts eg knowing that Paris is the capital of France. This knowledge shared by everyone and is not of personal nature like the episodic memory.
The Procedural memory is concerned with knowing how to do things eg knowing how to swim. Procedural memories are automatic and often we do not have to pay much attention while carrying out tasks using these skills.
