Solve the linear equation 4x+5=-6x+15

So, students should be able to solve basic linear equations as shown above. The aim in order to solve the equation would be to get all of the x values onto one side of the equation and all of the integers on the other. So, if we take the -6x variable to the other side of the equals sign then we would get 4x + 6x +5 +5 = 15. This is because we have taken the -6x variable to the other side of the equation. Students need to remember that when you take a variable to the other side then the sign changes, This is how we go from -6x to +6x. Furthermore, we now need to take the +5 on the left hand side over to the right hand side so that you have all of the integers on one side and all of the functions of x on another. This would lead us with the equation: 4x+6x=15-5 where we can simplify this down to 10x=10. What this means is that you have to find a x variable that when multiplied by 10 you get the solution 10. By inspection, we can see that this is 1. However, if you were faced with more complex numbers then we would divide the number on the left by the number on the right to get the value of x.
