What are the advantages provided to plant cells by having a cell wall?

Cell walls provide plant cells with protection and structure. Protection may be from adverse conditions or from biotic threats like fungi or bacteria. The structure of the plant is dependent on the presence of cell walls which ensure that plant cells have a particular set of dimensions no matter what the water content of the cell is.
