I see you did a degree in Biomedical Sciences. Why do you want to be a doctor and not a Biomedical Scientist?

Studying Biomedical Sciences was a great opportunity for me to explore my love for science and it taught me the importance and the power of research as scientific research allows us to create novel ideas to improve or overcome the limitations of current medical treatments for complex diseases. A highlight from my studies was gaining the top score for my proposal to use a novel Factor Hbiologic from P. pastoris culture to treat HUS of unmet clinical need. I appreciate the work of Biomedical Scientists because they use scientific research to provide reports that highlight effectiveness of treatments; however, the lack of patient interaction as a Biomedical Scientist can dehumanise patients. I'd like to be a doctor because I can apply the bio-psycho-social model of health as holistic therapy to treat the whole person. It seems redundant to treat a disease such as rheumatoid arthritis and disregarding social factors such as home conditions (stairs) and financial status (part-time employment or retired due to flair-ups) because the patient's quality of life is no better off. Therefore, I believe with the qualities and skills I have such as communication skills, empathy and leadership, I am better-suited for a career in Medicine.
