What influence does global migration have on the sovereignty of a state?

To start with, sovereignty is defined as the complete authority of a single, internationally recognised government over an area of land and its people. The sovereignty of a state also involves having a unified, permanent population with the right to self-determination, defined as right of a group of people with a shared cultural identity to freely determine their political status and pursue their own development. Global migration has most influence on state sovereignty through the dilution of cultural values and the so called 'ghettoisation' of certain nationalities that have immigrated and then induce segregation and potential conflict. Where dilution of cultural values and segregation occur, the authority of the government is likely to diminish. A contemporary example of this would be to look at the effects of the Mexican immigration into the USA. Not only is much of it illegal, but the isolationist attitude of the Americans has created segregation and discrimination against the Mexicans. Much of Donald Trump's political campaign has been based on his controversial views towards the Mexicans, most famously through the beginnings of the wall between the USA and Mexico. Therefore, global migration, through this migratory corridor, has influenced the state sovereignty of the USA. Donald Trump has not only been internationally condemned for his controversial actions, but the state fragility of America has also increased with an internal divide forming, reducing the complete authority of this single government over its area of land and its people.
