Invasion of Normandy, or better known as D-day happened on June 6th 1944 and was certainly one of the main turning points of WWII for several reasons. Firstly, we can consider the operation successful for the allies. Despite the enourmous casualties, the allies were able to land on the beaches of Normandy and begin the Battle of Normandy. They were able to break through which meant re-opening the door to France and mainland Europe which has been mostly under Nazi occupation. Second reason why this was a turning point is that as the battle progressed the liberation of France was advancing rapidly and efficiently. This was very costly, considering both causualties and finance as Nazi Germany was now fighting on the defense on both the eastern and the western front. It is worth mentioning that the Soviet were pushing the Nazis into defense on the eastern front. Nazi Germany was now being slowly but surely pushed towards itself and was surrounded by allies.
