Explain why chlorine is more reactive than iodine(3 marks)

The chlorine atom is smaller than the iodine atom therefore its 7 outer electrons are closer to the nucleus than the 7 outer electrons in iodine. In turn, this means the positively charged chlorine nucleus has a greater attraction for these negatively charged outer electrons so chlorine gains the last electron more easily than iodine.
