Describe and Evaluate Ainsworth’s The Strange Situation (6 Marks)

According to the spec. You must note that Description (A01) is worth less than Evaluation (A03). Therefore you should try to divide up the proposed points with that in mind. (2 Marks for Describe and 4 for Evaluate). A01- Ainsworth’s Strange Situation (1970) used a structured observational approach to study the attachment. (1). It had 8 pre-determined stages involving the mother and the child. (Outline the stages in the briefest way) (Time is of the essence, in written examinations). A03- Note: Evaluation must take the form of PEEL to maximise your chances of getting the marks. Generally for AQA an evaluation point is worth 2 marks so for this question, two evaluations will be necessary. Ethical issues: Some of the babies are distressed: Psychological trauma. External Validity is questionable.
