How is the relationship between Mama Elena y Tita portrayed in "Como Aqua para Chocolate"?

In the novel "Como Aqua para Chocolate", the writer "Laura Esquivel" shows a toxic relationship between Mama Elena and Tita. In this essay I will talk about the negativity that their relationship brings about, and I will further analyse how their relationship is unusual and inflexible, points which are the most important in this novel. The relationship between Mama Elena and Tita is a negative one due to the fact that they do not share the convectional mother-daughter bond. Mama Elena has a traditional thinking and therefore believes that Tita, for being the youngest out of her daughters, should never marry as her role in the soviet is to take care of her mother until she dies. This objection is later portrayed when Pedro asks for Tita's hand in marriage but in return the mother marries Pedro with Tita's older sister, Rosaura. In the quote "Sabes que por ser la menor de mis hijas a ti the coresponde cuidarme hasta mi metre...". The quote clearly shows the cold tone that Mama Elena is using. Furthermore, this quote is perfect to show her authority and role of dictatorship in the novel.
