Factorise fully 6xy + 3y

Step 1: recognise that the common factors of the two terms, 6xy and 3y, are: 3 and y. Step 2: take one common factor, say 3, out of the terms: 3(2xy + y). Step 3: also take the second common factor, y, outside of the brackets: 3y(2x + 1)
