How can I learn new vocabulary more easily?

So first of all it's good to find out what kind of learner you are; visual, kinesthetic or auditory. If, like me you are a visual learner you will find that new words are hard to memorise unless you have seen them written down. If you're an auditory learner you will find you have to hear the word and finally if you're a kinesthetic learner you will need to use the word in a phrase.

When learning a new word it also helps to learn what word category it is i.e. a noun, an adverb or a verb. If for example it is a noun, then you may want to take note of whether it is of feminin or masculin gender. Then you could take a note of what register it is and in what situations it is used. This will help you not only remember the word but learn how to use it accurately and in an appropriate way.

When using verbs in le passé composé (Perfect tense) how should I know which verbs take the avoir-form and which take the être-form?

Please could you explain to me when past participles must agree when using the passé composé? (NB in my experience, this was an issue for A-Level students of French too)
