Mitosis is the process of cell division, it occurs in humans and in plants. Compare and contrast the process of mitosis in human cells and in plant cells (5 marks)

(1) shape- in animal cells round before division, plant cells maintain shape throughout. (1) centrioles- present in animal cell mitosis, form the spindle fibre AND Absent in plant cells, spindle fibre forms from cytoplasm (1) cytokinesis- in animal cells the cell membrane folds inward, in plant cells a cell plate/ end plate forms inside from build up of cellulose(1) spindle fibres- in animal cells spindle fibres disintegrate in telophase. In plant cells spindle fibres stay present for cell wall formation (1) tissue type- in animal cells mitosis can occur in many tissue types, in plant cells it only occurs in meristem tissue. (1) BOTH animal and plant cell mitosis follows a similar structure (interphase, prophase, metaphase, anaphase, telophase then cytokinesis).
