One major implication of globalisation is monoculturalism and the degradation of the cultures that were there before. The introduction of a new, in most cases, western culture would become predominant spreading much of its fashion, tastes, characteristics among the population around where economic development has taken place. This means that the cultural characteristics that are native to that area become less popular due to the influence and marketing of western culture, taking away cultural diversity and introducing a globalised monoculture.Another consequence would be increased and sustained poverty due to the poorer workers having little choice but to find employment in the economic industry that has been introduced into the developing country. The factory, or whatever form of economic investment comes into the area, would soon develop a monopoly over the industries and attract people to work there because they cannot sustain their subsistence livelihoods in a rural environment. The industry therefore can employ these workers at a low wage, with little resistance which as a result keeps these workers in poverty, despite the investment offering the opportunity of a economically beneficial life.
