The student would be expected to understand the baseline ideologies of the Conservative and Labour party and use policies to back up these claims. There would then be an expectation to compare and contrast, with an acknowledgement of the various ideological strands within each party. It would first be pertinent to compare the two parties at the 2019 election, and the difference between Corbyn's radical democratic socialist agenda and Johnson's fiscal one-nation conservatism. An understanding of the 'Brexit' issue would also be useful, especially if explained by ideological reasoning. It would also be reasonable to compare the 'New Labour' project of 1997-2010 to the Thatcherite era of economics that preceded it, and pose the question of just how different those two ideologies were. Ultimately, the question can be taken in any direction by the student, so long as there is an explanation of the ideological structures of the party and how they contrast and align with each other.
