Of Mice & Men: Choose a character who you think is a victim of loneliness because of the society in which he or she lives. Write about this character, explaining the reasons for your choice.

It is arguable that within Of Mice and Men, that the personification of loneliness is that of Curley's wife. Given no name herself, she is always referred to as the property of Curley, causing her to be neglected and left alone. As the only woman on the ranch, her gender renders her different and segments her from the other characters. Her character lacks depth, as though even Steinbeck felt that she was unimportant and uninteresting. Furthermore, the audiences disproportionate knowledge of her compared to the other characters renders her lonely in our minds too, as we don't get the same insight into her personality and reasoning as we would like. The very few descriptions and discussion we gain of her depict her as 'a tart' and as this is exceptionally different to all other characters, she is left alone is this female only segment of the narrative.
