Country: Bangladesh
In Bangladesh, one problem as a result of overpopulation is the lack of housing. There are often over 12 people that share a room in cities such as Dhaka, and there is not enough space to safely build more accommodation due to the flood risk in the delta landscape.
A second problem caused by overpopulation is a strain on the countries economy. This means that the government doesn’t have enough money to look after its entire population. Therefore they cannot provide enough basic services to the people who live there including schools and hospitals.
A third problem caused by overpopulation is a shortage of jobs in Bangladesh’s cities. There is a lot of competition for people that work in the primary sector (physical and service jobs) and not enough work available to supply it. Therefore people do not work and enter poverty.
A final problem caused by overpopulation is pollution in Dhaka. Too many people in one area require a level of service to be able to deal with the population. This includes waste collection and traffic management. Unfortunately since the government is strained financially, they cannot afford to make adaptions to account for the rapidly growing population.
