How do I develop my answer in essays?

To develop your English answer in exams, think of PETAL. This stands for Point, Example, Technique, Analysis and Link. The point would be the idea you are putting across, such as saying there is a certain theme in a book. The example is using a quote from the text to back up your point. The technique says what this quote is - is it a simile or a metaphor or imagery being used? Analysis is focusing on why this technique and example is useful to the point you’re making. Then the link is linking it back to the question being asked in your exam.
