To allow enzymes to function at an optimal temperature, in order to maintain a constant rate of metabolism. To prevent denaturing of enzymes such as pepsin (or other named enzyme).To avoid cell membranes becoming damaged.To avoid hypothermia/hyperthermia (or other valid condition).
