What organelles do plant cells have that animal cells do not? Why do plant cells need these additional organelles?

Animal cells contain a different set of organelles to plant cells in order for them to function. Firstly, plant cells contain chloroplasts that allow them to photosynthesise and produce energy. As animal cells do not photosynthesise, they do not need chloroplasts. Plant cells also have a cellulose cell wall in addition to the cellular membrane: this provides the plant with additional support when it absorbs water through osmosis. Finally, a plant cell contains a vacuole which allows for storage of cell sap.
