What do I write about in my personal statement?

The one thing a personal statement shouldn't be is a boring list of your achievements. As extensive and impressive as they may be, you should always find a more interesting way to entice in the reader and tell them about your successful past and ambitious future. Use this as an opportunity to give administrators a flavour for what interests you in life, both academically and in your extra curricular activities. Beginning with an anecdote or short story as to what sparked your interest in your chosen subject is a great way to stand out from the crowd, but don't go googling "funny personal statement stories" if you cannot think of one. Go on to explain why you're attracted to studying this subject at a higher academic level i.e University. Be specific with your interests and show that you've done your research into what a degree in this subject requires. Don't be shy to sell yourself and be proud of all that you have achieved, this will shine through your writing. Balance confidence with politeness and humility and show the reader your enthusiasm and respect for your chosen subject.
