Explain the importance of the Abrahamic covenant to the history of Judaism

The Abrahamic covenant is a agreement made between Abraham (the founder of Judaism) and God. It is detailed in the Torah and in Genesis in the old testament of the Christian bible. God spoke directly to Abraham and formed the covenant between him and his descendants. This marks the beginning of the relationship between God and the Jewish people. Jews believe that the covenant applies to all Jewish people. It is believed that during the covenant Abraham became the first human to follow the one true God and reject all other false gods. this believe was made a 'sign in the flesh' through Abraham circumcising himself and his family, this is a practice known as Brit Milah and remains a central Jewish practice. In exchange for there loyalty god gave the Jewish people the promised land of Canaan.
