Symbols instantly convey a message or meaning to those who are familiar with them. Symbols are used a lot in the Christian faith and can be seen on altars and in different places around the church and in Christian homes. Many Christians wear the crucifix or cross either as a necklace or earrings as it is a symbol of the resurrection of Jesus. There are also more physical forms of symbolism used within the church. These may include – Baptism, which symbolises dying and being reborn into the church and being washed of your sins, Holy communion, which symbolises the Passover meal at which Jesus broke bread and shared wine amongst his disciples. Catholics believe in transubstantiation which is the belief that once the bread and wine enters their mouths it becomes the body and blood of Jesus.
