How are red blood cells adapted to their function?

Contain Haemoglobin, the molecule for carrying oxygen through the blood. Bi-concave shape, to give a large surface area for diffusion of oxygen. No nucleus to make more space for haemoglobin for oxygen transport. Small and flexible, to fit through narrow blood vessels and capillaries.
