Explain the process of speciation

Geographic isolation occurs so the population is separated and the two groups cannot interbreed. Variation due to mutation arises in the separate populations leading to different alleles becoming dominant and natural selection can occur where the strongest survive and reproduce to pass on their alleles. Over time the two populations will have changed so much that they can no longer interbreed to produce fertile offspring.
