The purpose of this exercise is not to show off, but rather to prove to the examiner that you can use basic structures correctly. This means you do not have to worry about using impressive structures (i.e. si clauses, the subjunctive, superlatives etc). What you should focus on is deploying simple but accurate French. For example, for a question about hobbies and interests, you must know which activities take "à" (typically sports - jouer au foot), and which take "de" (instruments - jouer du piano). You should aim to use conjunctions (e.g. "En outre", "De plus", "Cependant) to make your passage more interesting. Try to use topic specific vocabulary, such as "jouer aux cartes" or "jouer aux échecs". You might use different tenses, but it's not really necessary. It's perfectly fine to answer the question in the present tense.
