How should I answer the interview question "Why study medicine as opposed to another healthcare course?"

Most of all, be honest! The interviewer has heard the cliche "I like science and helping people" answer many times, and the GMC mandates probity as a key principle for good medical practice.I answered this question by stating that I was interested in surgery as a profession using a personal anecdote - this gave me a great talking point. Before approaching your interview, it's key to read up on the role of the doctor compared to that of other members of the healthcare team. A great sources of info for this is the NHS health careers website.
