Sodium and sodium chloride can both conduct of electricity under cetain conditions. Describe and explain the method of conduction for each species. (3)

Sodium metal can conduct electricity when solid or molten through the movement of delocalised electrons, which can carry charge. Sodium chloride is only conductive when molten or dissolved in solution, as the sodium and chloride ions are only free to move and act as charge carriers under these conditions.
