What do I need to put in my Artist Study?

Here is a rough guideline for a really thorough Artist Study.
Begin your artist study by researching the Artist, find biographies, articles, interviews and critiques. Alongside an overview it is a good idea to print out a key article and highlight/ annotate.
Print out a piece of the artists work and annotate it with your first responses, as well as recreating a part of it, experimenting with the media they have used. In your annotations think about: -thoughts and ideas you get from what you see and how the art makes you FEEL-what is the work ABOUT? is it narrative, realistic? distorted? abstract? imaginative? literal? lateral? -the TECHNIQUE. is there texture? surface? can you see brush marks? comment on the use of media. -the COMPOSITION. is the work carefully structured or freely designed? how has depth and space been created in the work? think about foreground, background, viewpoint, position, angles.-use of COLOUR. what does the colour make you feel? is there a restricted colour palette? where is the light? is the colour mixed carefully or instinctively?
It is also a very good idea to compare the artists different pieces of work, or equally compare and contrast with artists that challenge the genre, the movement and style that you're focusing on.
