Factorise (x+3)(x-8)

(x+3)(x-8)

x*x= x^2

x*-8= -8x

3*x= 3x

3*-8= -24

=x^2 - 8x + 3x - 24

=x^2 - 5x - 24

How can I know whether to multiply or add probabilities?

Solve x^2+4x-5=0

4x^2 + 8x + 3 can be written in the form a(x + b)^2 + c where a, b and c are whole numbers. Work out the values of a, b and c.
