How do I form questions in French?

You can do this in a number of ways:1) Changing your intonation - this means changing the way you speak the sentence in order to make it sound like a question, as we do in English. However, this is quite informal. With this method, you can leave the sentence as it is eg:Tu aimes la natation? -Do you like swimming?2) Using 'Est-ce que' - By putting this at the beginning of a sentence, you can also turn a statement into a question. This is more formal than the example above, eg:Est-ce que tu aimes la natation? - Do you like swimming? An important note is that if 'que' is followed by a word that starts with a vowel you need to use an apostrophe and take off the 'e'', egEst-ce qu'il y a une piscine? - Is there a swimming pool?3) Inverting the subject and verb - By putting the verb first, and then the subject and joining them with a hyphen, you can turn a statement into a question, egAimes-tu la natation? - Do you like swimming? There is another note, if there are two vowel sounds together, a 't' is used to make the pronounciation easier, egVa-t-il? - Is he coming?
