What is a "Nebensatz"?

A "Nebensatz" is a part of a sentence which cannot sussist by itself, which lacks of any meaning if not related to the "Hauptsatz" it is refering to. There are many different kinds of "Nebensatz", each of whom tries to extend the meaning of the "Hauptsatz" by adding some additional information to it. The nature of the "Nebensatz" can be for example causal, temporal and so on, and can be identified by the conjunction situated at the beginning of the "Nebensatz". The conjunction "Nachdem" for example always open a temporal "Nebensatz", whereas the conjunction "Weil" always open a causal "Nebensatz". In German the easiest way to recognize a "Nebensatz" is to look at the position of the verb in the sentence. Verbs always occupy the last position in a "Nebensatz", whereas the first two positions are occupied by a conjunction immediately followed by the subject of the "Nebensatz"
