What's the best technique for writing an introduction to an essay?

Introductions are a key part of any good essay as this is the first taste the marker is going to get for what your essay is about. There are a few key things to remember when writing an Introduction. Firstly, keep in concise! More detailed analysis should be left to the main body of the essay. The best way to do this is to set out one key thing that you intend to say in the main essay, in each sentence of the introduction (two sentences at most!). You should also outline the approach you are going to take. For example you may want to first analyse arguments for, then separately analyse arguments against a particular question before reaching a conclusion. (There are many different ways to approach a question but setting your approach out in the intro will help with the flow of your essay) Using these tips will make your essay easier to follow and understand (which is definitely a plus!) I hope this is helpful.
