What is the importance of including historiography ?

Including historiography is an important skill for the developing historian and its use should be encouraged. However, using historiography alone does gain any marks. Instead, it should be used alongside other key features such as sustained judgement or balanced argument in order to increase the quality of essay answers. In this way, historiography will allow students to access higher mark bands. When quoting historians, students should not copy out long phrases but instead should use small quotations at key points for maximum effect.
