How should I read critically?

Extra reading is necessary for those students wishing to access the higher mark bands as it provides a broader perspective on your course.

When reading, students should attempt to ensure they are reading critically. This means reading with the intention of interpreting the argument of the historian. As a result, students go beyond the literal facts and recognise the bias of historians in their writing and how arguments can be unpicked with counter-evidence.

Development of such a skill supports student's ability to provide balanced argument in their essay answers. This allows students to improve their exam performance.
