How can I prepare for French listening exams?

Listening exams are one of the most difficult components of the French GCSE, but also one of the most important as they test both your understanding and vocabulary. Many students often find it difficult to practice for listening exams and so often simply don't prepare at all, but there are a few ways in which you can develop your French listening skills in preparation for the exam. Like any other exam, practice as much as possible. Listen to French recordings from past exams and practice doing them in timed situations. It is also really helpful to listen to French radio, music and films which can 'train your ear' to understand French more easily, without it seeming like so much work!Vocabulary is also a very important aspect of French listening exams, as the more words you know, the better understanding you will have of the recording. This is often done best over time, keeping a notebook and noting down a few words a day, or whenever you come across an unfamiliar expression.
